Media Literacy Education at Lagoa State Elementary School 02

YPP held a Media Literacy Education program in Lagoa State Elementary School 02, with 650 students from 1st grade to 6th grade of elementary school participating in the program. The activities were divided into 2 sessions, the first session for children in 1st grade to 3rd grade, and the second session for children in 4th grade to 6th grade.

Aside from the Media Literacy Education sessions, the Weli Car (BookMobile) was also present, with activities guided by kak Suradi and several teachers where children could read books after completing activities from the Media Literacy Education program.

The Principal of Lagoa State Elementary School 02,  Suwondo S.Pd expressed his gratitude on behalf of the school for the activities from YPP Indosiar SCTV and ATV. Most elementary school students are active on social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, Tiktok, and so on, despite being under the age limit of creating an account on these platforms. Unsupervised and uninformed interactions within these platforms put the students at risk of negative exposure, which may be detrimental to their growth on development, thus the importance of this Media Literacy Education program, along with supervision and assistance from parents and teachers.

The program continued its efforts in fostering a fondness for reading while simultaneously providing insight on using social media wisely through sessions led by Kak Ningnong/Ms. Ning and Kak Oma/Ms. Sisca. They emphasized on the informed use of social media and the importance of reading in increasing creativity and broadening your knowledge.

The program also included a lesson on symbols and signs found in shows, namely age restrictions, prohibitions, and other symbols found on social media. This was done in order for children to be able to identify the content they are allowed to consume according to their age.

Student representatives from 6th grade, Adskhan and Adillah, expressed their gratitude for the program. They have stated that the lessons were not only very fun, they also helped increase their understanding of social media and how to properly interact with it.
