Pundi Amal Peduli Kasih Foundation SCTV Indosiar (YPP), in collaboration with the Indonesian Army Veterans’ Association (PPAD) and the Indonesian Ophthalmologists’ Association (PERDAMI), held the Cataract Surgery Social Service program. The program follows the theme "Kitorang Melihat Terang", roughly translating to “We will see the light”. Along with the surgeries, thousands of Food Packages were distributed at Wamena, Jayawijaya, Papua Mountains, on October 24-27, 2023.
Hundreds of enthusiastic residents came to the Wamena District Hospital to participate in the screening, but only 79 people met the requirements for cataract surgery. Most of the residents live far from the location in which the surgeries will be held, with homes behind the mountains. Military Command 1702 Jayawijaya facilitated the pick-up and drop-off for residents participating in the surgeries, as well as other health services such as general healthcare, dental care, cleft lip surgery, distribution of vitamins, and supplying vision aids.
Apart from providing free cataract surgeries, YPP SCTV Indosiar also distributed 1250 food packages to the public and patients alike.
