Free Cataract Surgeries in Sikka, East Nusa Tenggara

Pundi Amal Peduli Kasih Foundation SCTV Indosiar (YPP), in collaboration with the Indonesian Ministry of Social Affairs, PERDAMI’s Central Cataract Blindness Management Division (SPBK PP), and the Sikka Regency Government, held a Cataract Surgery Social Service program at the Dr. T.C. Hillers Maumere Regional Hospital, April 20, 2023.

SPBK PP Perdami deployed 6 ophthalmologists, 7 assistant surgeons, and 5 other officers to support the cataract social service this time. A total of 41 cataract patients were successfully operated on out of the 100 who took part in the screening.

PERDAMI’s SPBK PP supervisor, dr. Sriana Wulansari, SpM(K) expressed her gratitude toward YPP SCTV Indosiar’s cooperation with PERDAMI’s SPBK PP in holding free cataract surgeries for the people of Indonesia. The rate of cataract blindness in Indonesia is quite high, especially in East Nusa Tenggara with high levels of sun exposure—one of the main causes of cataract alongside age.
