Free Cataract Surgeries in Kediri

Pundi Amal Peduli Kasih Foundation SCTV Indosiar (YPP), in collaboration with the Indonesian Ministry of Social Affairs and the Kediri Regency Government, held a Cataract Surgery Social Service program at Simpang Lima Gumul (SLG) Hospital, Kediri Regency, on March 17, 2023. The program was reported to have successfully operated on 253 patients.

Hundreds of residents participated in the program. One of them was Vendra Tri Cahya, a 6 year old pediatric cataract patient suffering from cataracts since birth. Accompanied by community health center officers and the head of the hamlet, Vendra’s mother, Sutami (42), traveled 15 km from Sukomoro Village, Papar District, Kediri Regency to the SLG Regional Hospital to sign her child up for the surgery. Vendra was not the only one in Sutami’s family to have suffered from cataracts. Sutami's own mother and Vendra's older sister, Velin Aprilia (16), also experienced impaired vision from cataracts. Velin was, thankfully, cleared of the cataracts, as she has undergone surgery already. Sutami hopes that the surgery will be able to help restore Vendra’s vision and let her carry out her activities as a student.

The Indonesian Minister of Social Affairs, Tri Rismaharini, expressed gratitude towards YPP SCTV Indosiar who, without fail, has supported the ministry’s efforts in the cataract surgeries and other social service outreach activities, such as for the Kanjuruhan Tragedy.

The Regent of Kediri, Hanindhito Himawan Pramana, was also thankful for YPP SCTV Indosiar’s efforts in supporting the free cataract surgery program in the Kediri Regency.
