Pundi Amal Peduli Kasih Foundation, in collaboration with PERDAMI’s Central Cataract Blindness Management Division and doctorshare, organized a Cataract Surgery Social Service program on Jampea Island, Selayar Islands, South Sulawesi.
74 patients were successfully operated on at the Jampea Regional General Hospital. PERDAMI deployed 3 ophthalmologists and was assisted by 7 other medical personnel. Patients who came for the surgery were from areas part of the Selayar Islands, such as Bonerate Island and Selayar Island. Jampea Island does not have ophthalmologists available and only one hospital, which explains the enthusiasm displayed by the local community.
