Media Literacy Education at Kebon Manggis State Elementary School 01

On Thursday, November 16, 2023, YPP held the Media Literacy Education program at Kebon Manggis State Elementary School 01 in East Jakarta. The program had students from 1st grade to 6th grade in participation. There were 2 sessions during the entire event, one for students in 1st grade to 3rd grade and the other for students in 4th grade to 6th grade.

Apart from counseling, there were also activities in Mobil Weli (BookMobile) guided by Kak Dian and Kak Suradi where students would read books, watch films, etc.

Vice Principal, Fioneta, represented the school in her gratitude for the Media Literacy Education which were deemed very useful in encouraging the students' interest in reading, studying, and character building, educating them on how to wisely handle technology and social media.

The program continued its efforts in fostering a fondness for reading while simultaneously providing insight on using social media wisely through sessions led by Kak Ningnong/Ms. Ning and Kak Sisca. They emphasized on the informed use of social media and the importance of reading, following the idea of Generation Z as the “Visual Generation”. 

The program also included a lesson on symbols and signs found in shows, namely age restrictions, prohibitions, and other symbols found on social media. This was done in order for children to be able to identify the content they are allowed to consume according to their age.

Student representatives, Kenzo and Sinta, expressed their gratitude for the program, as they found the lessons to be both fun and useful in their pursuit of knowledge.
